Lucas Lasota is a researcher and project manager in the field of IT, telecommunications and contract law. His current research focuses on current regulatory measures of digital technologies and their impact on individual and collective rights, as well as on Internet governance, telecommunications and international contract law. Interoperability cannot be established automatically sometimes. Think about proprietary systems denying Free Software developers access to features and functionalities. Such limitations can escalate to such a proportion affecting whole digital markets. Latest legislation in the EU has used interoperability as a regulatory tool, setting strict obligations to big tech, like Apple and Google. The FSFE has participated in several regulatory procedures to defend and promote Free Software developers, fighting for better interoperability policies. This talk will illustrate a recent victory achieved in a regulatory procedure initiated by the Commission against Apple, opening up iOS and iPadOS to interoperability.
