esca(n)galhar a computação do usuário.
dispositivos e eletrodomésticos IoT sob controle remoto.

<https://www.lx.oliva.nom.br/blog/draft/blob-fallacy>, aproveitando

This talk will showcase an online platform for arts education, drawing on frameworks from the ecology of images, post-colonial, intersectionality, and critical media studies. Initially developed as a research tool, the platform incorporates didactic dimensions of ecological image production processes. It has, therefore, become an archive with different functions. We developed this platform using free software like the MediaWiki ecosystem with a React frontend.

We will demonstrate the platform, showing some narratives and explaining the technological background. We designed the platform drawing on frameworks from the ecology of images, post-colonial, intersectionality, and critical media studies within the scope of the project Breaking the Code: Algorithmic Non-Normativity in Creative Digital Humanities.
In this archive, we have data that includes textual, geographical, temporal, and audiovisual information on the history of image ecology. We designed this archive from the digital humanities perspective, in which the data is treated as capta, a narrative aligned with specific issues. We have four exploratory axes to develop these issues: Historical, Laboratory, Artistic, and Educational. The axes function as categories we can cross to extend the narrative plan. For instance, the Laboratory axis contains information such as molecules that act in photographic development; the Educational axis has teaching material such as exercises for sustainable image production; and the Historical axis includes information, for example, on the environmental consequences of the photographic industry, from the extraction of silver in analog photography to the resources used in digital imaging.
We initially developed this platform to structure and visualize data related to photography's material and ecological history, digital imaging, and visual media production.
We began by developing a data model in wikibase.cloud, capable of supporting structured research into the socio-environmental dimensions of image technologies. After initial experimentation, we deployed a custom Wikibase Suite instance <https://wikibase.echoimages.labs.wikimedia.pt/> with a Docker decoupling architecture and with a React-based frontend <https://echoimages.labs.wikimedia.pt/> designed to prioritize narrative and spatial engagement.
This frontend allows researchers and students to explore structured data through a series of interactive tools:
-	A leaflet-based map for geolocating intensities and relationships;
-	A graph visualization interface for exploring connections among entities;
-	A filterable timeline and property-based search engine, enabling layered dataset exploration.
Together, these digital tools form a dynamic interface for narrative data exploration, allowing researchers and students to engage critically with the history of technological development and its material effects on bodies, labor, and ecosystems. Thus, the platform serves as a knowledge environment and a space for proposing new modes of storytelling, situated knowledge, critique, and speculative world-building. In this space, capta, rather than data, becomes the unit of epistemological engagement.
This architecture may be generalized to other domains and themes, supporting the creation of new archives, pedagogical models, and critical visualizations. It is an interesting and fun way of using and inserting data in the Wikimedia ecosystem. We also use the platform for thinking in situated knowledge and using the Wikimedia ecosystem in a decyclopeding mode (not universalist, normative, or encyclopedic mode). Even in this situated knowledge, we engage entirely in the free software, FAIR principles, and Linked Open Data (LOD) spirit.

Time is one of the greatest challenges in the world of IT. Unlike other engineering disciplines, what we build in tech often has a short lifespan and demands constant change to retain its value. Most of the projects we work on are short-lived and for many, their only path to survival is a complete rebuild.

But not everything in tech has to be temporary. With thoughtful design, regular maintenance, and continuous refactoring, important systems can last decades.

In our industry, “legacy” is often seen as a dirty word—synonymous with outdated or poorly written code. However building a legacy should be one of our highest aspirations as engineers. Crafting systems, codebases, and even teams that outlast us is one of the most meaningful artifacts we can leave behind.

Drupal is a great example. There are websites built on Drupal that have been running for decades. While time may have eroded its shine, its solid foundations have allowed them to evolve and remain relevant almost 25 years after Drupal’s creation.

In this talk, we’ll explore the principles, patterns, and personal anecdotes that can help you build software designed to last. We'll look at how to create systems that are not only long-lived, but also prepared to evolve—just as Drupal has done since 2001.

While Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can be incredibly powerful, over-relying on them can hinder your learning process, especially as a junior developer. In this session, we will explore the potential downsides of leaning too heavily on AI, including:

* The impact on active learning: How overusing AI can inhibit the development of debugging skills, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking.
* Building healthy workflows: Learn the benefits of first producing your own solution and then using AI as a second set of eyes to refine your approach.
* Ethical and security risks: Understand the dangers of exposing sensitive code, API keys, and the need for anonymizing data when working with AI tools.
* The importance of soft skills: AI cannot replace technical communication, interpretation of requirements, or collaboration—skills crucial to a developer's success in a team environment.

By the end of the session, you will have a better understanding of how to balance AI tools with personal growth and security best practices.

After more than a decade developing for Drupal, I decided to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could streamline and enhance the coding process. In this session, I will share how AI can become a powerful tool for Drupal developers. I will discuss:

* Tips for crafting effective prompts to generate high-quality code.
* How to guide AI-tools back on track when they deviate from Drupal best practices.
* Managing expectations and understanding the strengths and limitations of AI in assisting with development tasks.

The session will feature a live demo, showcasing AI tools in action and how they can be integrated into your daily Drupal development workflow.

Perhaps a better pattern might be to admit to - and enshrine - our ignorance of what we are actually going to build in our architecture, avoiding excessive coupling not only in components, but in our **assumptions**.

1. Intro - Thesis: instead of pretending certainty, treat **ignorance** as a **first-class design constraint**.
2. The Illusion of Certainty (and the cost of premature certainty)
3. Ignorance as a Design Primitive - not incompetence, but *honest admission of what we don’t (and can’t) know yet
4. Patterns of Designing with Ignorance
5. Anti-Patterns
6. Cultural Practices that Support Ignorance
7. Audience Interaction (tell us your story of premature certainty)
8. Closing: Architectures are frameworks for discovery, not monuments to foresight.

In an increasingly digital society, individuals and organizations of any kind have to take many decisions on which tools and services to use to make their life easier, more fun and productive. For those who just want something that works out-of-the-box, mainstream products or cloud services mainly developed by large US-based corporations are the go-to, no-brainer choice. But if we widen our view to take into account long-term aspects and implications of our decisions, difficult-to-answer questions start to pop-up: where is the data going to be stored? Is the provider going to use my data for goals that are not directly related to provide the service that I’m subscribing to? What if I change my mind in the future and want to switch to a different provider? Does the provider comply with the local privacy and security protection legislation?

From laptops to home routers, from servers to smartphone, from operating systems to mobile and web applications, from social networks to chat applications.. while the digital tools and services mentioned above cover an incredibly vast domain, in this talk we will focus on Nextcloud, an open-source collaboration platform that can be deployed anywhere, let the user directly control his data and offers advanced features such as documents management and synchronization on all the devices, chat, videoconferencing , productivity apps and an AI assistant, that can also be deployed locally.

We will not only expose the platform features, but we will also explain the options to get your own Nextcloud instance up and running, assess how a decentralized and interoperable service such as Nextcloud makes the whole ecosystem more resilient, mention the legal aspects related to the GDPR and the more recent Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act and, finally, speak about a large-scale case study in which I was directly involved in an early-phase of the project.

## Open-source supply chain threats

The open source ecosystem faces escalating supply chain threats, exemplified by the Shai-Hulud worm, a novel, self-replicating malware targeting npm maintainer credentials. The worm weaponized the trust inherent in open source, using malicious post-install scripts to steal credentials and automatically spread, threatening CI environments like Acquia’s, which manages +400 internal open source Jenkins jobs. This raised a critical question: how can an organization built on free software principles contain a threat that weaponizes the very freedom to execute code? Our preparedness was rooted in the Four Freedoms. By leveraging the freedom to study and modify, we implemented a robust defense centered on disabling the automatic execution of package installation scripts, turning open source values into our most effective shield.

### Key Takeaways

- Treat the Four Freedoms as a practical security framework.
- Disable automatic package installation scripts by default in CI/CD.
- Leverage community intelligence to accelerate incident response.
- Implement global policy controls for open source dependency consumption.
- Rotate all exposed CI/CD secrets immediately after an incident.

### Target Audience Relevance

This session offers a candid playbook for minimizing the blast radius of supply chain threats. DevSecOps professionals and developers will learn specific policy controls for hardening pipelines and safely leveraging open source freedoms, gaining actionable strategies to protect the software they build and depend upon daily.

Interoperability cannot be established automatically sometimes. Think about proprietary systems denying Free Software developers access to features and functionalities. Such limitations can escalate to such a proportion affecting whole digital markets. Latest legislation in the EU has used interoperability as a regulatory tool, setting strict obligations to big tech, like Apple and Google. The FSFE has participated in several regulatory procedures to defend and promote Free Software developers, fighting for better interoperability policies. This talk will illustrate a recent victory achieved in a regulatory procedure initiated by the Commission against Apple, opening up iOS and iPadOS to interoperability.

The FSFE has created the illustrated book "Ada & Zangemann - A Tale of Software, Skateboards, and Raspberry Ice Cream" as an Open Education Resource under a Creative Commons License. This tale is about the inventor Zangemann and the girl Ada, a curious tinkerer. Ada begins experimenting with hardware and software, and in the process, she realises how crucial technology is for her and others. It is a fascinating story for children from 6 years old, motivating them, especially girls, to tinker with hardware and software and encouraging them to shape their technology.

Associemos então o Blender ao termo garagem-oficina (<i>workshop</i>).

O percurso apresentado cobrirá, passo a passo:
(i) criação da galeria-índice e definição de metadados;
(ii) utilização de OCR e do fluxo de revisão colaborativa (ProofreadPage);
(iii)  normas de transcrição e formatação: predefinições usuais, notas, gestão de translineação e colunas, numeração;
(iv) transclusão para o espaço principal e retoques finais (categorias, navegação);

OpenCascade Technology (OCCT) is a mature open-source C++ SDK for 3D CAD/CAM/CAE applications with over 30 years of history and millions of lines of code. While the library's origins are in France, the majority of our development team is now based in Porto.
This talk takes you behind the scenes to explore what it actually takes to maintain a large-scale, production-grade open-source project today. After a brief introduction to OCCT and its use cases, we'll dive into our experiences, challenges, and solutions from the trenches - covering everything from development workflows and quality assurance to modern tooling and team collaboration.

We'll start with a quick overview of OCCT's core functionality and how developers worldwide use it in their 3D modeling applications. But the main focus is on something rarely discussed: the reality of maintaining such a complex open-source codebase.
This presentation pulls back the curtain to show you how we actually work: the tools we use, the processes we follow, the problems we encounter, and the solutions we've discovered. From our Porto-based development team's perspective, you'll see what works, what doesn't, and what we've learned maintaining millions of lines of C++ code over decades.
The goal is to share practical knowledge that applies to anyone working on serious open-source software, regardless of domain or technology stack.

The FSFE has created the illustrated book "Ada & Zangemann - A Tale of Software, Skateboards, and Raspberry Ice Cream" as an Open Education Resource under a Creative Commons License. Now the story is also available as an animated movie.
